ATA2018 – winners

Archistart promoted the second Architectural Thesis Award, the international thesis award, launched with the aim of promoting, rewarding and giving visibility to young talents in architecture.
226 young professionals under 35 of 20 different nationalities took part in the competition with 152 projects.

The jury was composed of Luis Pimentel Stefano Boeri Architect; Alessio Bernardelli, members of Km429 Architettura; Arabella Rocca Architect and two members of the Archistart team, Giacomo Potì and Davide Tartaglia.

Archistart ha promosso il secondo Architectural Thesis Award, il premio tesi internazionale realizzato con l’intento di valorizzare, premiare e dare visibilità a giovani talenti del mondo dell’architettura.
Al concorso hanno partecipato 226 giovani professionisti under 35 di 20 nazionalità differenti con 152 progetti.

La giuria era composta da Luis Pimentel, dello Studio Boeri Architetti; Alessio Bernardelli, componente di Km429 Architettura; L’architetta Arabella Rocca e due componenti del team Archistart, Giacomo Potì e Davide Tartaglia.

1ST PLACE

Name project: Build to make a change
Architect: Francesca Vittorini
Nationality: Italian

Jury’s motivation:
The project excels for both social and technological value. The study of the territorial context and its materials, reinterpreted in a modern key, highlights the significant experimental nature of the project. The thesis has taken on a participating dimension and an innovative approach. The synthesis and the story-telling skills are excellent as well.

Motivazione giuria:
Il progetto ha colpito per la valenza sociale e tecnologica, oltre per la composizione architettonica. Lo studio del contesto e dei suoi materiali, reinterpretati in chiave contemporanea, evidenzia la sperimentalità del progetto. Il lavoro di tesi ha assunto una dimensione partecipata, con un approccio innovativo. Ottima capacità di sintesi e racconto.

2ND PLACE

Name project: SANT’ORSOLA, FIRENZE
Architect: Filippo Fornai
Nationality: Italian

Jury’s motivation:
The thesis is found remarkable for the ability to contextualize and valorize a historical building. The intervention proposed is balanced, practicable and shows a strong architectural sensitivity. The appropriate use of materials gives further equilibrium to the intervention. Excellent the synthesis capability and the overall graphic quality of the project.

La tesi si è distinta per la capacità di contestualizzazione e valorizzazione di un bene storico. L’intervento risulta calibrato, fattibile e con una spiccata sensibilità architettonica. Uso appropriato dei materiali che armonizza l’intervento. Ottima capacità di sintesi e qualità grafica del progetto.

3RD PLACE

Name project: Santa Croce 59: from squatted building to new ways of living
Architects: Matteo Molinari & Andrea Piattella
Nationality: Italian

Jury’s motivation:
The project is notable for the cultural and the social value, as well as for the complexity of the context analysis. The housing option proposed is found to be feasible and determined for the problem resolution.

Il progetto si è distinto per la valenza culturale e sociale e la complessità dello studio del contesto. La soluzione abitativa proposta risulta fattibile e risolutiva rispetto alla problematica affrontata.

Special mention – architectural composition

Name project: Regeneration of the Ottoman Arsenal in Istanbul as a CEMEVI
Architect: Marija Milenkoska
Nationality: Italian

Jury’s motivation:
The project is worth mentioning for the clarity of its design idea and for the communication synthesis. The urban analysis and the intervention complexity distinguish the thesis work. Along with the contemporary interventions, the respect and the valorization of the pre-existing asset is optimal.

Il progetto è emerso per la chiarezza dell’idea progettuale e per la sintesi comunicativa. Lo studio urbano e la complessità dell’intervento qualificano il lavoro di tesi. Accanto interventi contemporanei, risulta ottimale il rispetto e la valorizzazione delle preesistenze.

Special mention – urban planning and landscape

Name project: Poggio Bonizio. Progetto di valorizzazione del parco archeologico della fortezza di Poggibonsi.
Architect: NICLA GIARRATANA
Nationality: Italian

Jury’s motivation:
The project is distinguished for its incisive sign, though respectul and perfectly integrated in the context. It is recognizable without invading the background. The intervention has a high landscape value. The thesis work is characterized by smart composition, communication and synthesis capabilities.

Il progetto si distingue per il segno incisivo pur rispettando ed integrandosi con il contesto. Si raggiunge la riconoscibilità senza invadere il contesto. L’intervento ha una alta valenza paesaggistica. Eleganza compositiva e capacità di sintesi e comunicativa, caratterizzano il lavoro di tesi.

Name project: INFRA-PAISAJE: New Landscape Infrastructure for San Juan de Marcona
Architect: Luis Bendezu
Nationality: Peruvian

Jury’s motivation:
The project is notable for the technological analysis and for the integration of technical solution applied to a landscape design.

Special mention – Rehabilitation/Conservation

Name project: REFILL
Architects: BAM, Alessandra Zattoni e Barbara Moretti
Nationality: Italian

Jury’s motivation:
The thesis examines the realization phases and the developing factors study. The thesis work is remarkable for the analysis of the context necessities and for the synthesis capability.
