Chachapoyas, is located in the north of Peru. 2,335 meters above sea level. In a valley surrounded by cloud forest, from that comes the meaning of its name “Chachapoyas: forest of clouds” and of its citizens “Chachapoyano: man of the clouds”
Its nature, which envelops the city giving it a unique quality, is the main distinctive value of the city, according to the inhabitants. Through smell, sound, and color nature is always present, and thanks to its proximity, it is the scene of leisure and entertainment spaces for the citizens. Likewise, nature has always been a subject for creative manifestations such as songs, poems, paintings, dances, etc.
Nevertheless, this nature, is seen every year, in danger of destruction. Since Chachapoyas was founded in 1538, the peripheral line is the place for encountering between nature and man; However, this place is increasingly moving away, as the city grows. Ecological values with which the city counted, today no longer exist. Can the city stop moving to the woods? Could the City grow while maintaining within its natural periphery? How to show nature to the villagers and make it part of their day to day? Therefore, thinking about the environment in consolidation in Chachapoyas, where the future of nature is uncertain with regard to urban growth, a master plan is proposed using every urban void and abandoned solar, to turn them into peri-urban parks and natural squares: a structured masterplan through green corridors. It seeks to generate privileged spaces of biodiversity and nature reserves. Spaces located in the middle of the urban fabric and in the periphery, joining them with the city and its inhabitants through a series of urban facilities, necessary for the city, which serves as support to inhabit these urban gaps. This is how the architecture is placed where it is really necessary.
The challenge of the project is to work one of these urbain voids. For that is studied to understand its geographical characteristics and natural elements, in addition to its current physical relationship with the city. First of all, it is proposed to work its 4 perimeter sides in a different way, according to the variables that each side has. Specific architectural interventions such as fog catchers, viewpoints, garbage collectors, malls, and fording areas with urban crops are proposed. As a second step, a system of roads that cross the void is proposed, at the same time, these roads are considered paths of interpretation of nature,, touching some points of specific natural elements, such as forests, ravines, sandstones, rocks, etc. It is in these points where the first interventions of incident structures are placed. Small artifacts that inform and highlight the natural phenomena of the place by reformulating the experiences and sensations that are offered to the person. And as a third step, urban equipment is considered are necessary for human settlements. They call the inhabitants to inhabit the park and give it a new cultural, social, educational and economic value. Architecture is finally understood not as a house or a building but as principles from which a house, a library, urban furniture, communal centers, greenhouses and other different spaces can be built. Architecture as an agent that allows us to connect with nature through different incidents.
