The Salone Internazionale del Mobile will start tomorrow in Milan, one the most important international fairs of the year, extremely loved by architects and designers from Italy and all around the world.
The incredible trade fair is not the only attraction, as the unmissable events of Fuorisalone and Milano Design Week, scattered around the city from Tuesday 17 to Sunday 22 April, have a great appeal to the enthusiast non-professionals and the general public as well.
We couldn’t help but give you some tips on where to go and what to see, in order to enjoy this amazing moment of Milan!

Domani a Milano comincia il Salone Internazionale del Mobile, una delle fiere più importanti dell’anno, molto amata dagli architetti e dai designer d’Italia e di tutto il mondo. L’incredibile offerta fieristica si arricchisce di anno in anno degli imperdibili eventi del Fuorisalone e della Milano Design Week, sparsi per tutta la città da martedì 17 a domenica 22 aprile, che attirano anche appassionati e non addetti ai lavori.

INHABITS is the new exhibition of Milano Design Week, dedicated to the most innovative solutions for living: a time capsule that will allow to discover the city and the house of the future in a visionary preview. INHABITS will be the innovative design city set up in the spaces nearby the Castello Sforzesco and will host a house unit and functional spaces, spectacular interactive installations, realized by some of the most famous architects worldwide: Progetto CMR, Piuarch, Studio Laviani e TAM Associati.

INHABITS è la nuova esposizione della Milano Design Week dedicata alle soluzioni più innovative per abitare: una capsula del tempo che consentirà di scoprire in anteprima la città e la casa nel futuro. Cos installations for Milano Design Week make always a great ‘noise’. Last year we were impressed by the soap bubbles of the hotel designed by Studio Swine that were prized with the Milano Design Award as Most Engaging Exhibition.
The creation of 2018 will be handled by the American artist Philip K. Smith III, known for his immersive light installations. In the historical Palazzo Isimbardi he will realize an architectural sculpture inspired to Italian Renaissance, Milan sky and to the sober simplicity of COS aesthetics.

Le installazioni di Cos per la Milano Design Week fanno sempre tanto ‘rumore’. L’anno scorso ci siamo lasciati affascinare dalle bolle di sapone dell’albero progettato da Studio Swine che si sono aggiudicate il Milano Design Award come Most Engaging Exhibition.
A realizzare l’installazione di questa edizione 2018 sarà l’artista americano Phillip K. Smith III, conosciuto per le sue installazioni luminose immersive. Nello storico Palazzo Isimbardi realizzerà una scultura architettonica ispirata all’architettura del Rinascimento italiano, al cielo milanese e alla sobria semplicità dell’estetica di COS.

Stefano Boeri Architetti will curate the 2018 edition of the exhibition/event space&interiors of Fuorisalone. Thanks to a suggestive setting up, Stefano Boeri Architetti will move on the Red Planet a selection of the most esteemed firms in the field of architecture and interior design, taking inspiration from a project of “green” colonization of Mars developed for the city of Shanghai.
The days will go through cultural and informal moments organized by Stefano Boeri Architetti, with the participation of several protagonists from the architecture and the scientific & spatial innovation world, offering to the visitors an extraordinary mix of sensations, information and news.

Stefano Boeri Architetti curerà l’edizione 2018 della mostra/evento space&interiors del Fuorisalone. Grazie ad un suggestivo allestimento, Stefano Boeri Architetti trasporterà sul Pianeta Rosso una selezione dei prodotti delle più quotate aziende nel settore dell’architettura e dell’interior design, ispirandosi ad un progetto di colonizzazione “verde” di Marte sviluppato per la città di Shanghai.
Le giornate saranno scandite da momenti culturali ed informali organizzati insieme a Stefano Boeri Architetti, con la partecipazione di protagonisti del mondo dell’architettura e dell’innovazione scientifica e spaziale, offrendo al visitatore un mix straordinario di sensazioni, informazioni e novità.

CLS Architetti, in collaboration with Italcementi, will present the first 3D-printed house. 3D HOUSING is a prototype of 100 sqm realized with a mix of concrete powders; this house can be demolished, pulverized and re-built recycling the same material. The study shows how it is possible to build a low-impact house in one week, that can be easily enlarged, raised, doubled and even moved and re-collocated according to the customer needs.

CLS Architetti, in collaborazione con Italcementi, presenterà la prima casa stampata con la tecnologia 3D. 3D HOUSING 05 è un prototipo di 100 metri quadrati realizzato con una miscela di polveri cementizie; questa dimora può essere demolita, polverizzata e riedificata riciclando lo stesso materiale. Lo studio dimostra come sia possibile costruire nel giro di una settimana una casa a basso impatto ambientale, che può essere facilmente ampliata, rialzata, raddoppiata e persino spostata e ri-collocata secondo le esigenze del committente.

Archistart Studio with Primato Pugliese for the exhibition RED – designed by heart has conceived a great panel where different materials combine and break up through an anamorphic game, creating the image of a distorted heart that gains significance only when the observer get in a precise position which gives a privileged and symbolic point of view to the visitor, once inside the space. A prospective play that twists and expands the space perception, recalling symbolically a new horizon and a new slant for the “hand-made” design.

Archistart Studio con Primato Pugliese per la mostra RED – designed by heart, ha ideato una grande parete dove i materiali si compongono e scompongono in un gioco anamorfico, creando l’immagine di un cuore distorto che acquista significato solo quando l’osservatore si dispone in una precisa posizione, che regala al visitatore una vista privilegiata e simbolica quando entra all’interno dello spazio. Un gioco prospettico che distorce e amplia la percezione dello spazio, evocando simbolicamente un nuovo orizzonte ed una nuova prospettiva per il design “hand-made”.

Again this year Archiproducts Milano has decided to improve its headquarter in via Tortona 31 with an installation made of hundreds of very light aluminium chains, created by Kriskadecor. The motif on these chains changes year by year, 2018 is the turn of Elisa Ossino Studio. The drawing on the facade translates visually the idea of ‘filing”. A concept that, in different forms, is replicated in other three spaces of the building, designed by the team of Elisa Ossino: a stairway that leads to the upper floor, the long corridor and the great hall on the first floor. A path where the concepts of ‘filing’ and ‘seriality’ are interpreted through a combination of forms and colours, in a continuous perceptive return game across bidimensional and tridimensional visions.

Anche quest’anno Archiproducts Milano decide di valorizzare il suo edificio di via Tortona 31 con un’installazione formata da centinaia di leggerissime catene in alluminio prodotte da Kriskadecor. Il disegno su queste leggerissime catene cambia di anno in anno, il 2018 è l’anno di
Elisa Ossino Studio. Il disegno in facciata traduce visivamente l’idea di ‘archiviazione’. Un concetto che, in forme differenti, torna in ulteriori tre spazi del building progettati dal team di Elisa Ossino: la scala che conduce al piano superiore, il lungo corridoio e la sala grande al primo piano. Un percorso in cui i concetti di ‘archiviazione’ e ‘serialità’ sono tradotti in una combinazione di geometrie e cromie, in un continuo rimando di giochi percettivi tra visione bidimensionale e tridimensionale.

Daikin Industries, Ltd. in collaboration with the design studio Nendo, founded in Tokyo in 2002 by Oki Sato, presents, for the special occasion of Milano Design Week, the exhibition “Nendo x Daikin”.
The exhibition “Nendo x Daikin” proposes a serie of unique and design items, some parts of which are made of DAI-EL, (technically called fluoroelastomer) a material characterized by an extraordinary softness and a wide range of colour tones, produced thanks to the technology property of Daikin.

The japanese studio Nendo, leaded by the designer Oki Sato, for the Milan Design Week has created a line of four different hourglasses, obtained from a volume of transparent acrylic. The internal cavities where the sand is stored have been hand-polished with thin steel abrasive-ended needles. This production method gives the forms an almost natural and organic effect, similar to clouds or puddles, transmitting the sensation that the time goes even more freely.

Lo studio giapponese Nendo, guidato dal designer Oki Sato, per la Milano Design Week ha creato una linea di quattro diverse clessidre, ricavate da un volume di acrilico trasparente. Le cavità interne per accumulare la sabbia sono state lucidate a mano con sottili aghi metallici con punta abrasiva. Questo metodo di produzione conferisce alle forme un aspetto quasi naturale e organico, simile a nuvole e pozzanghere, trasmettendo la sensazione che il tempo si muova ancora più liberamente.

Telling the variegated universe of Vitra upon Milano Design Week will be the task entrusted to the Viennese designer Robert Stadler through an installation at the former sport arena La Pelota, in the pulsating heart of Brera Design District.
The exposition “Typecasting. An Assembly of Iconic, Forgotten and New Vitra Characters” is thought as a wide, dynamic show of projects, products and studies on brand design, with the aim of immersing the visitors in the past, present and future story of the Swiss company, leader in the furniture market, whose unreleased connections, narrative themes and possible interpretations will be revealed by the curator’s perspective indeed.

A raccontare il variegato universo Vitra in occasione della Milano Design Week sarà il designer viennese Robert Stadler attraverso un’installazione presso l’ex-arena sportiva La Pelota, nel cuore pulsante del Brera Design District.
L’esposizione “Typecasting. An Assembly of Iconic, Forgotten and New Vitra Characters” è pensata come vasta rassegna dinamica di progetti, prodotti e studi di design del brand, con l’obiettivo di immergere i visitatori nella storia passata, presente e futura della leader svizzera dell’arredo e di cui, peraltro, la prospettiva del curatore rivelerà inediti nessi, filoni narrativi e possibili interpretazioni.

Design, art and fashion are merged together in the Nonostantemarras space. Antonio Marras, well-know stylist from Alghero, has launched a collaboration with five Italian furniture brands that lead to new, unrealised collections. For the Design Week, with the complicity of Francesco Maggiore – engineer, president of Fondazione Gianfranco Dioguardi and Kiasmo creative director – Marras is curating the operation “PREMIATA DITTAMARRAS&CO”, real and genuine co-working that, for several months, has been transforming the Nonostantemarras space in a creative laboratory of meetings, ideas and collaborations, creating many partnerships between some Italian firms selected with Archiproducts among the most lively and innovative ones in the field of design and house furniture: La Fabbrica del Lino, Fantin, Kiasmo, Saba, Wall&Decò.

Carlo Ratti Associati (CRA) presents the project “Living Nature. La Natura dell’Abitare”.
In a 500 sqm open space, conceived with energy-saving criteria, four natural and climate microcosmos will be enclosed, allowing for the four seasons of the year to coexist in the same moment, one next to the other: the visitors will be able to dive into nature and live its changes going through the four areas – Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn – enriched with familiar and domestic suggestions.

Carlo Ratti Associati (CRA) presenta il progetto “Living Nature. La Natura dell’Abitare”.
In un unico ambiente di 500mq, concepito con criteri di risparmio energetico, verranno racchiusi quattro microcosmi naturali e climatici che permetteranno alle quattro stagioni dell’anno di coesistere nello stesso momento, l’una accanto all’altra; i visitatori potranno immergersi nella natura e viverne i cambiamenti attraversando le quattro aree – Inverno, Primavera, Estate e Autunno – arricchite da suggestioni familiari e domestiche.

The Chinese character “宅” (home) has several interpretations in eastern culture; it doesn’t lead only to the idea of living but it is also related to a magnificent house that can host “the sky, the earth, the man and the spirit” at the same time.
The Chinese meaning of house then represents not only a space dimension, but it reflects also the soul and the spirit of who lives it.
HOAA House of Art&Artists of Zaha Hadid Architects studio, on the special occasion of Milano Design 2018, presents the exhibition LIVING PHILOSOPHY, dedicated to a deep exploration of the Chinese traditions of living.

ll carattere cinese “宅” (casa) ha molteplici interpretazioni nella cultura orientale; esso non è riconducibile solo all’idea di abitazione, ma viene idealizzato come una grande dimora che può ospitare allo stesso tempo “il cielo, la terra, l’uomo e lo spirito”.
Il significato cinese di casa quindi rappresenta non solo una dimensione spaziale, ma riflette l’anima e lo spirito di chi vi abita.
HOAA House of Art&Artists dello studio Zaha Hadid Architects, in occasione della Milano Design Week 2018, presenta la mostra LIVING PHILOSOPHY, dedicata a esplorare nel profondo la tradizione cinese dell’abitare.
