International Architecture Holiday, San Cataldo
IAHsummer15 was in San Cataldo, Lecce, Italy from 1 to 9 August 2015. One hundred youngsters from all over the world had the chance to live 9 days full of architecture and entertainment in the wonderful coasts of Salento.
The workshop involved 100 young people split in teams and followed by a tutor who provided all the materials necessary to produce the documents required. The teams produced two tables A2 format, where projects realized with freehand will be represented and a three-dimensional model in 1:50 scale.
The theme of this edition was the design of a Glamping (glamorous camping), i.e. a new type of holiday offering luxurious accommodation delved into a landscape in close relationship with nature. A portion of Salento territory was the location where to map out this new type of accommodation. Workshop participants teams designed a space destined to a common atelier with laboratory activities and experiential tourism areas (ATELIER module), some living units with single and double rooms (HOSPITALITY module) and a module destined to dining (FOOD module).
The second summer workshop respected IAH inaugural edition standards, as perfect mix of fun and learning. Participants were involved in teaching sessions, like the evening lectures from the international architecture firms partners DOSarchitect and ORproject partners, as well as in leisure activities, like the Salento traditional dinner, animated by live concert and folk dance performances, the half day-off at the fabulous beach of Porto Cesareo, the pool party and the night out visiting the charming old town of Lecce .
During the event, with the support of Archistart media partner ORGANICONCRETE, a t-shirt silk-screening special event was organized for the Street Art Night, hosting the artist ChekosART that painted a piece of graffiti inside the hostel.
On the last day of the workshop Archistart invaded the heart of Lecce: the participants exhibited their project in the main square of Lecce, Piazza Santo Oronzo, attracting locals and tourists.
